Ingredients

WHITE RICE
  • 2 cups basmati rice
  • 4 cups water
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
STEAK AND PEPPERS SAUCE
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 of 1 whole green bell pepper chopped small
  • 1/2 of 1 whole yellow bell pepper chopped small
  • 1/2 of 1 whole orange bell pepper chopped small
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 1 pound flank steak cut into small cubes
  • 2 teaspoons cumin
  • 2 teaspoons paprika
  • 2 teaspoons ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 to 1/2 tsp salt to taste
  • 1/4 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/3 to 1/2 cup Italian Dressing to taste
  • 2 small Roma tomatoes cut into small cubes
  • 2 tablespoons parsley finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons cilantro finely chopped

Instructions

WHITE RICE
  1. Rinse rice with cold water until it runs clear.
  2. Add 4 cups of water to a pot over medium-high heat. Bring it to a boil. Then add the rinsed rice, olive oil, and salt. Stir. Once the water begins to bubble again, drop the heat to low and cover tightly for 13 minutes.
  3. After 13 minutes, leave it covered for another 5 to 10 minutes with the lid on. Then take a fork and fluff the rice and set it aside for now.
STEAK AND PEPPERS SAUCE
  1. To a sauce pan, add the olive oil along with the diced bell peppers. Saute for about 3 minutes just until they soften a bit. Then add the garlic and saute for another minute.
  2. Add the steak along with cumin, paprika, ginger, onion powder, turmeric, black pepper, and salt. Mix together and cook just until the meat is browned.
  3. Then add the tomato sauce and Italian dressing. Mix and taste. Adjust any seasoning as you would like.
  4. Finally, add the diced tomatoes, parsley, and cilantro. Allow the tomatoes to soften for 1 to 2 minutes. Give it one final mix and take off the heat.
  5. Add the white rice to the sauce and mix to coat. Serve warm!

Would love to try this recipe. Would it be Italian dressing mix or Italian salad dressing that’s added to this recipe?

Hi, do you have an alternative to beef for this recipe? And just wanted to confirm is tomato sauce just ketchup? Also, is italian dressing something I can get in store? Thank you

Can you make this vegetarian without the steak, or would the flavor not be the same?

Omg this is so delicious! Very flavorful! I just switched the paprika with chili powder . ????Also tried your chicken skewers in Ramadan while fasting . It was perfect!!! Thank you for your recipes! Next try is going to be the chocolate chip cookies!!

Looks great! Would the recipe work without the steak too?

Can you make this without the steak…especially if serving with the grilled chicken skewers?

Is there an alternative instead of using beef/steak?

Hi, I am going to make this soon. Since I am not from the states: What exactly is Italian dressing? The stuff from the bottle? And what do you mean by tomato sauce? Is it plain tomato purée or does it contain any spices/condiments?

Would this also work without the beef?
Thank you so much for sharing this recipe ?

Hey!
I want to make your rainbow rice but without the steak – because I’ll make your chicken skewers to go with it!
My questions are: make the rainbow rice recipe as is just minus the steak and all should be fine? Any recommendations?
Lastly, what Italian dressing do you prefer or recommend? I notice every brand of Italian dressing is different ingredient wise!

Thanks in advance!!!
